Plans and credit: how your allowance works in the app

RainbowSay includes the AI it runs on, so instead of API keys and invoices from someone else you have one simple thing: an allowance. This page explains how it shows up in the app. Prices and what each plan includes are on the Pricing page.

One allowance for everything

Listening, Speaking and Subtitles all draw on the same allowance — spend it on whichever you like. What uses it is the AI work itself:

  • each translated sentence (a little more when the translation is spoken aloud),
  • the audio you speak in a Speaking session,
  • each minute of live Subtitles, per language,
  • chat questions, a little.

Silence, standby, a suspended or muted session, and browsing your history use nothing.

Where to see it

Open Settings then Provider and look under Usage & plan:

  • Plan — the plan you’re on.
  • Plan usage — on a paid plan, a bar with the percentage of this period’s allowance you’ve used. It returns to zero when your allowance renews.
  • Add-on credit — a balance that doesn’t expire. On the Free plan this is where your one-time starter credit lives.
  • Refresh — fetches the latest numbers, for example right after a purchase in the browser.

You don’t need to watch it. When the allowance nears its limit, an amber chip in the overlay says “Usage limit almost reached”, and Settings says “You’re approaching this period’s usage limit.”

What happens at zero

Nothing is ever charged automatically, and nothing is lost.

  • A session that’s running ends gracefully with a message. Everything you completed is saved.
  • New sessions don’t start. Instead, the overlay shows what you can do next.
  • Your history, replays and the Dashboard keep working as always.

Upgrade from inside the app

On the Free plan, when your credit is used up the overlay turns into a Choose a plan screen — the same plan cards are always available under Usage & plan in Settings.

  1. Choose Monthly or Yearly (the badge shows what yearly saves).
  2. Click a plan. The app says “Opening your browser — complete the purchase there”, and a secure Stripe Checkout page opens. Card details are entered there, never in the app.
  3. Come back to the app. For the next few minutes it keeps checking for the purchase by itself and closes the screen when it goes through; Refresh (↻) does the same on demand.

To change or cancel a plan, update your card or download invoices, press Manage plan… under Usage & plan. It opens Stripe’s billing portal in your browser. If a subscription payment fails, the app tells you — “Your subscription payment needs attention” — and Manage plan… is where to fix it.

Add-on credit

A big month — exam week, a twelve-episode weekend — doesn’t have to wait for the renewal date. On a paid plan, once the period’s allowance is used up, the app offers Buy usage credit…: a one-time top-up, paid through Stripe.

  • Your monthly allowance is always used first; credit steps in only after it.
  • Credit doesn’t expire, so what you don’t use stays on your account.
  • It is never bought for you automatically.

Add-on credit is offered to subscribers. On the Free plan the way forward is a plan — or the offer below.

Students, teachers and creators

If you study, teach or make things with languages, you can ask for extra free credit so there’s time to try RainbowSay properly before choosing a plan. Email us from your school or university address — or, as a creator, include a link to your public channel or profile — and tell us which Google account you sign in with. The address is at the bottom of this page, and the details are on the Pricing page.
